Planet Wing Pickups – Bringing Double Bass and Cello to Life
Discover Planet Wing Pickups for double bass and cello, designed to deliver a warm, balanced amplified sound with clarity across the full range. Learn about the instruments, the sound and international dealers.
Finding the right amplified sound for a double bass or cello is not always easy. Both instruments have a remarkable natural voice, and a pickup should help that voice come through clearly without losing its warmth and character.
That is what Planet Wing Pickups are all about: giving musicians a practical way to amplify their instruments while keeping the sound balanced, defined and musical.
A pickup for double bass
The Planet Wing Double Bass Pickup delivers a strong, consistent output across the full frequency range. The lowest notes retain excellent definition, while the midrange and treble remain warm and clear, without the harsh edge sometimes associated with amplified double bass.
Whether you are playing delicate lines or a more driving bass part, the goal is the same: a sound that feels natural, responds well and sits comfortably in the music.
A pickup for cello
The Planet Wing Cello Pickup follows the same philosophy. It offers high output, well-defined low notes and a warm, balanced response throughout the instrument's range.
For cellists who want to bring their instrument into an amplified setting, this makes it possible to explore new performance situations while keeping the cello's distinctive tonal character at the centre of the sound.
From the workshop to the stage
Planet Wing Pickups are part of my work with string instruments at my workshop in Tornemark, Denmark. After taking over Planet Wing Pickups and Kontrabas.com from Bjarne Ringsted, I expanded my work to include more double basses, cellos and other bowed instruments alongside guitars, banjos and mandolins.
Working with the instruments themselves is an important part of understanding what musicians need from their sound, whether the task is maintenance, adjustment or fitting a pickup.
Available through international dealers
Planet Wing Pickups are available through selected dealers in Denmark and abroad, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Sweden and Norway. You can find the current dealer information on the Planet Wing Pickups section of michaelstaun.dk.
