Slow Banjo – From YouTube and Relaxation to Film Music

Michael Staun’s Slow Banjo has over 2 million views on YouTube. Read about listeners’ experiences and music for Rabiya (2024) and GREATER – Anthem Film (2025).

Slow Banjo is my musical project focusing on calm, atmospheric and meditative banjo music.

It is music with room for reflection, contemplation and presence, and over time it has found its own audience both online and in the world of film.

A YouTube channel with listeners around the world

My Slow Banjo YouTube channel has reached over 2 million views. Over the years I have received many messages from people telling me how they use the music in their daily lives.

Some listen to fall asleep or relax. Others say it helps them during meditation, in connection with therapy, or when studying and concentrating.

It means a great deal to hear how these quiet banjo notes reach so many different people.

Music with room for calm and reflection

The banjo is often associated with fast tunes, but in Slow Banjo the instrument has a different role. The pace is gentle and the simple notes have time to ring out.

I also release the music under the artist name Sleeping Joe. YouTube features long Slow Banjo videos that listeners use for sleep, relaxation and study.

Slow Banjo in the world of film

The music has also found its way into film productions. I am credited as a composer for Rabiya, released in 2024.

In 2025 I also recorded a special version of Slow Banjo for GREATER – Anthem Film, an American brand film produced by Resonant Pictures and directed by Marty Martin for Greater Industries Labs Inc.

It is exciting to discover how a simple banjo melody takes on new meaning when combined with moving images.

Music for film and other media

Slow Banjo can also be used in documentaries, short films, commercials and other visual stories. If you work in film or media and are looking for calm, atmospheric instrumental music, please contact me about music licensing or a custom recording.
